Tamalyn will discuss how Egypt, Turkey and the Levant are at a historical crossroads of cultures, and how the music we dance to developed from these crossroads. Tamalyn will share the influence traveling has had on her dance and her journeys and experiences traveling in parts of Asia, the Middle East and North and East Africa.

Meet Our Presenter

Tamalyn Dallal has performed and taught Oriental dance in forty-three countries, training several of the world’s most renowned performers through the Mid Eastern Dance Exchange of Miami Beach, a non profit arts organization that she founded and directed for 16 years. She was also among the first members of the Bellydance Superstars (BDSS).

She has written four books: “They Told Me I Couldn’t”, “Belly Dancing for Fitness”, “40 Days and 1001 Nights: One Woman’s Dance through Life in the Islamic World”, and “The Bellydancing Kitties of Constantinople”, a children’s book. Currently, Ms. Dallal is writing a screenplay for animated film, based on this book.  

 In addition, she has filmed and produced three dance and culture documentaries: 40 Days and 1001 Nights, Zanzibar Dance, Trance and Devotion, and Ethiopia Dances for Joy. Tamalyn lives and teaches in New Orleans and tours part of the year in Asia. A new film, produced by Amaya, called the American Dance Icons features Tamalyn Dallal, among other well known dancers: Sahra Saeeda, Delilah, Fahteim and more.
