Amir is a Middle Eastern musician, instructor, performer, and composer. Originally from Iran, he received extensive musical education in Tombak and Tar performance, vocal techniques, and Radif theory (Persian Music Maqams) at Tehran Music University. After moving to the U.S. he expanded his repertoire, studying Classical Composition, Arrangement, and Clarinet Performance at the University of California – Santa Cruz, in addition to collaborating with various local and international artists.
Having been a teacher for over 25 years has made his teaching style to blend Western and Iranian classical music theory, with traditional and practical aspects of daily use of music, creating a personalized learning environment for each student. Amir has a strong belief in the healing and expressive power of music. He has facilitated workshops on various topics such as “Music and Emotion,” “Sufi Drumming,” and “Spiritual Drum Practices.” Amir believes in the power of human creativity and trains his students to compose and perform solo pieces and integrate music with other art forms like poetry and dance.
Through his dedication to historic/traditional musical education, Amir fosters a loving community of innovative and empowered artists in the Bay Area and all around the world.
